Gov. Haley Barbour said today at the Neshoba County Fair he expects to announce by Monday a new plan to make less severe Medicaid cuts.
His comments came a day after the state’s Division of Medicaid, which he oversees, decided to withdraw a plan to cut $375 million from the health-care program that serves almost 600,000 low-income Mississippians. A group of 40 hospitals had filed a petition with the Hinds County Chancery Court to prevent the governor from making the immediate cuts. A hearing had been scheduled for Friday, but was canceled following Medicaid’s announcement.
